Who Would Jesus Dismiss…
I saw this on Megan’s Blog… and am left shaking my head.
It would appear that the National Association of Evangelicals is drawing fire because Richard Cizik thinks that there might be one or two things that should be important to the NAE other than political activism against abortion and homosexual rights.
“Christian Leaders” like James Dobson and Gary L. Bauer have signed a letter to the association (even thought they do not belong to it) asking for the removal of Cizik, according to an article in the New York Times.
I will give you a minute to re-read all that, and then read the article…
This is another attempt to align Jesus with the Republican party, and “conservative values”, and it sickens me.
When is Dobson and the other “Evangelical Christian Leaders” going to realize how they have tarnished the image of the church in the eyes of the world around us? I know that there will be those that do not think it matters, and that being in and not of the world means that we can act as jerks in the name of calling out sin…
But is that really wise?
1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1 talks about not causing others to stumble…
About acting in a way that will allow people to experience Jesus…
I believe, in all my heart, that the political activism of the evangelical community does more to cause people to stumble, does more to keep people from faith, does more to encourage the world around us to turn their back on Christ and His church than any amount of abortion, or gay marriage, or any democratic candidate for office.
On Sunday morning the pastor at the church I have been attending spoke about the parable of the good samaritan. Reading through it this time I was struck by the teaching that Christ gave…
When asked about how one might partake in eternal life, Christ did not say that you had to protest abortion clinics, he did not say that you needed to picket statehouses and court buildings that were making a decision on homosexual rights, he did not even say that you need to accept Geeeeezus as your Lord and saviour.
Christ instead talked about what it meant to love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and all your soul, and all your strength, and all your mind; and love your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:27) by telling the parable.
I wonder what it would look like if we began to love our neighbor as ourselves as we pursued loving the Lord our God will all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength.
It would probably do wonders for the church in this nation…
It would probably do wonders for the people in this nation…
It would probably be hard to maintian contributions to organizations who thrive on division for the sake of political influence.

It really would do wonders for the people of this world if we all began to love our neighbors…what is there was a revolution and tomorrow all the Christians in the world did one thing to show Christ’s love…would the world notice a difference? Or would things go on as they always have? Are we making an impact?
Thanks for the link, great thoughts.
