Jeff Bezos must be celebrating somewhere…

Now that I am somewhat settled in my new house I have rediscovered Amazon.com.

Unpacking my storage unit, I decided that I have about eight boxes of books to give away (anyone want to pick through them?), I also realized that I need to find another bookshelf.

The true joy in unpacking my library is that I have finally found a few books that I have been wanting to read (or was in the middle of reading when I moved). Brian McLaren’s The Secret Message of Jesus, and Rob Bell’s Velvet Elvis are two of them. This week I also received some new additions to my library, and resumed my Amazon addiction by picking up Sex God, by Rob Bell; N.T. Wright’s Simply Christian; and The Suburban Christian, by Albert Hsu (this one is Curtis’s fault).

Rereading Velvet Elvis has been a wonderful experience for me, and it is starting to tinker with my heart and my thinking… this could be dangerous.

  1. OK, this is what you need to do right now. I’m serious, right now.

Go to LibraryThing.com and create an account. Fill in all the books that you have that you want to get rid of, send me the link to your profile, and I will start making requests.

    Do it! Do it Now!

  2. NT will be a definite encouragement – read it soon… you will enjoy the fresh air of “simply christian.”

  3. I’ve read a few NT Wright papers on various subjects (“new perspective” on Paul being one of them), but have yet to actually read one of his books.

Any thoughts on which one to start with?

  4. Curtis – “Simply Christian” would probably be a good place to start. It’s definitely his most readable. Another one that will draw you into the world of the Bishop is “Following Jesus.” I’d hold off on his New Testament and the People of God series until you’ve familiarized yourself with him – but that’s just me.

  5. Joel-
Thanks! I just added them to my Amazon wishlist to keep track of them for later.

    Matt-
Sorry to hijack your post! But seriously, what books do you have that you want to get rid of? ;)

  6. Don’t sweat it… I am debating not telling you, so that you guys might drive down and see me.

Maybe on Tuesday, since Joel and I are going to be getting together and talking church stuff anyhow…

I am going to do that whole library thing thing on sunday, I believe…
