Baltimore Busts 200…
Today Baltimore officially registered 200 murders for the year.
Compare that to Boston, a city of similar size, which is upset about having 47 murders this year.
Of course, New York City has 306 murders on the year. New York also has about 14 times the population of Baltimore (approximately 9 million vs approximately 630,000). Were Baltimore to have the population of New York City, statistically we would have 2800 deaths so far this year.
You read that right.
Let that sink in for a minute.
Something is very very wrong with this picture.
I have a few ideas of what needs to happen, how a group of people who are passionate about bringing the Kingdom of God to the city of Baltimore might be able to go about it, but I would like to hear your thoughts…
What do you think needs to happen to turn this city around?

I have worked in Baltimore for many years. I still go to school there and love the city. The killings and crime are part of the culture now. Politicians try to blame it on guns and race issues. The only way to change Baltimore is to change the culture. That has to start at the younger ages. My opinion is to start with the grade schools. The younger children need to be shown love and how to respect each other. Time needs to be spent with these children. It may take a few years to see the change but it will happen. People want to see change right away but that is not going to happen. Influencing the young is the way to go. Sorry for being long-winded.
Long winded? You have a ways to go…
I would agree with you on working in the schools and the way that the politicians play the race card is appalling, but that dates back to Kurt Schmoke.
Where are you going to school now?
Pete’s probably right. From many I have spoken with, it’s the children - yet I know from experience you reach very few children without reaching families. I heard one guy say B-more will only be changed one block at a time. I think there’s truth to that as well.
U Of Baltimore. I take a few classes every semester. I am taking off this semester though. I need a break.
gosh, i’m really glad to have connected with your blog. thanks for visiting mine. look forward to reading more of your words, my blog friend.
It’s really a surprise that cities with that many Red Sox and Yankees fans don’t have a lot more murders …
